Evaluation for Transplantation

Patients seen at a transplant center for Transplant Evaluation will undergo physical examination by a transplant physician/surgeon and meeting with a coordinator, social worker, financial liaison, pharmacist and dietician.

Patients will undergo a series of blood tests that includes blood group type, tissue typing, blood count, kidney/liver function, infections, etc. In addition, they will undergo an X ray of the chest, ultrasound of the kidney, heart tests and standard cancer screening.

Based on patients' health status and test results – patients may require additional testing and consultation as well as approval from certain specialists.

All test results will be compiled and the case will be discussed at a multidisciplinary meeting for approval for listing for kidney transplantation.
